Armour/Armor, Gentleman’s: A Man’s Suit, usually tailored.

Bun Bu Ryo Do: “literary arts, military arts, both ways" or "The pen and the sword in accord". The balance between military arts and social arts.

Caballero/Cavalier/Chevalier: A Knight or a Gentleman that still maintain the military traditions within his code of chivalry. A chivalrous or Courtly man, especially one acting as a lady's escort in formal dances. From the old French and Italian cavaliere, based on Latin caballus ‘horse.’

Chivalry, Knightly: the medieval knightly system with its religious, moral, and social code. It included the combination of qualities expected of an ideal knight; courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help the weak. It can be traced to the Old French chevalerie, from medieval Latin caballerius, from late Latin caballarius ‘horseman’.

Chivalry, Modern: the moral code of a Gentleman based on the evolution of the Knightly Chivalry, where Nobility and Birth Ranks are no longer important. Still maintains the ideals of courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help the weak.

Feminism: The advocacy of political, social, and economic equality between men and women. First mentioned in the late 19th century, from French féminisme .

Gallant: A person who is brave or heroic. It also refers to a dashing man of fashion or a fine gentleman. From Old French galant, from galer ‘have fun, make a show,’ from gale ‘pleasure, rejoicing.’

Gentleman: A chivalrous, courteous, or honorable man. A polite or formal way of referring to a man. Originally referred to a ‘man of noble birth’, from the Old French gentilz hom. In later use the term denoted a man of a good family or good upbringing, but not necessarily of the noble birth.

Gentleman-Scholar: A man who combines the art of being a gentleman with the education required to be a scholar.

Kintsugi/Kintsukuroi: “golden repair.” Art of fixing broken pottery with lacquer resin dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy it speaks to breakage and repair becoming part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

Lady/Dame/Dama: A woman of superior social position, especially one of noble birth. A polite or old-fashioned form of reference to a woman. The female counterpart of a Gentleman. From the Old English hlǣfdīge, denoting a woman to whom homage or obedience is due, such as the wife of a lord or the mistress of a household.

M.G.M. (Modern Gentlemen’s Movement): A male social movement based on updating the old traditions of Chivalry and Gentlemanly behavior, as to provide a framework to be Better Men.

Misogyny: A dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.  From the Greek word misos, meaning ‘hatred’, and gunē, meaning  ‘woman.’

M.I.W. (Modern Independent Woman): Self-made, strong-willed, and elegant woman.

M.R.A. (Men’s Rights Activist)/M.R.M. (Men’s Rights Movement): A male social movement that serves as a counter revolution to the Feminist Movement.  The men's rights movement focuses on what it considers to be issues of male disadvantage, discrimination, and oppression.

Neoteric: a modern person; a person who advocates new ideas.

N.L.P (Neuro-linguistic programming): An approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy where a person can “program” another based on neurological processes ("neuro"), language ("linguistic") and behavioral patterns. Foundation for most PUA tactics. Discredited as a Pseudoscience.

Patriarchy: A system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it or reduced to a secondary role within it. From the Greek word patriarkhēs meaning ‘ruling father’.

Polymath/Polymathist/Polyhistor: a person whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas; such a person is known to draw on complex bodies of knowledge to solve specific problems.

P.U.A. (Pickup Artist): A man who trains in the skills and art of finding, attracting, and seducing women by employing cons and schemes.

P.U.A. Community: A movement of men who look for sexual success with/access to women by applying PUA techniques. The community exists through Internet newsletters and weblogs, marketing, forums and groups, as well as over a hundred local clubs, known as "lairs".

Sanctuary: A Gentleman’s home, where he can lower his guard. It can be a place to socialize where he goes so often, it serves as a second home.

Shield: A gentleman’s Virtues and his self-confidence is his greatest protection from offenses.

Sprezzatura: a certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or says appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it.

Steed/Chariot: The relationship of a Cavalier and his steed has always been almost spiritual. In modern times, the Car or a Motorcycle replaces the old world Horse.

Sugar Baby: A young woman skilled in the art of finding, attracting, and seducing men by for the purpose of her financial benefits. Previously be called Gold Diggers.

Sword/Weapon: The “pen”, be it written or spoken. A gentleman’s ability with words is still his most powerful weapon.

Warrior-Poet: The ancient tradition of developing the body and the mind as one. Modern Western culture tends to think of Warriors and Poets as belonging to distinct, different and opposing groups. Traditionally though, poetry and war are complementary pursuits.

White Knight: A hero who comes to the rescue or a champion who fights for a cause.  Also refers to a company that comes to the rescue of another, as to prevent a hostile takeover.

White Knighting/White Knight Syndrome: Rushing to the aid of another as a result of an apparent injustice. It refers to a man who sees the typical maiden in distress, and believes that he can help her. A male version of the ‘protective mother’ figure.

Wingman/Wingwoman: A pilot whose aircraft is positioned behind and outside the leading aircraft in a formation. A person who will offer support and advice to a friend while dealing with potential partners.

Yugen: an awareness of the universe that triggers feelings too deep and mysterious for words.
